History of world environment day
On June 5, the United Nation declared it as the world environment day at the Stockholm conference on the human environment. (United Nation conference on human environment was held in Stockholm, Sweden which is known as Stockholm conference on the human environment).
Firstly, the idea was to draw the attention of people around the world to make a serious concern regarding environmental conservation. Also to make people realize that it is possible to create some positive change if everyone around the globe works together.
Similarly, in 1987 it began celebrating by choosing a host country for its celebration. Since the different countries host it every year.
After the Stockholm declaration in 1972, this day was first celebrated in 1974 in the city of the USA, Spokane. The theme for that year was “Only One Earth”. It was hosted by 34 cities around the 25 countries in the world in 1974.

Things to do on this day
Environment day encourages people to think for nature as they think for themself. It is to be noted that not only one day in a year is picked up for the environment. In fact, if we celebrate each day as an environment day and make a concern towards it then it will be the best place for human existence.
- Spread awareness: Everyone can spread awareness regarding the environment and its importance.
- 3R principle: Reduce, reuse, and recycle are the three principles to conserve the environment. We must try to adopt these three concepts for the environment.
- Tree plantation: We can plant a tree on the bare land on this day. If we do one person one tree then we can plant seven billion plan in a day. As a result, it makes one step closer together for a better future.
- Save water: Emerging from land to water, marine pollution, and water wastage has been one of the major growing concern. So this day we can focus on save water movement.
Environment day 2020
The theme for this day is “time for nature“. It focuses on nature and its benefit to us. Although nature has given us everything to sustain our life on earth we still mistreat it and take it as a granted.
So this year’s goal is to give much more concern for nature and conserve it.
